Cardiovascular disease is the general name for a group of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels. Together, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally.  These include coronary artery disease, stroke, high blood pressure and vascular dementia.  There are many environmental and lifestyle factors which can contribute to cardiovascular disease, but there is also a genetic component; you are more likely to develop a heart or circulatory disease if there is a history of it in your family.
