Bowel Disease

Diseases of the bowel cause discomfort, nutritional issues, and a lower quality of life. Some genetic disorders are structural, and are identified early on; other are metabolic, and are identified later as the individual develops nutritional difficulties. Bowel disease can also manifest later in life, as in the case of bowel cancer. Researchers are currently investigating whether gene and cell therapies and engineered tissue might help us to understand and treat these diseases.
