Tissue Engineering

Tissue engineering is a discipline at the intersection between biology and engineering. Stem cells are grown on porous scaffolds to create constructs with a similar structural composition to a specific tissue. These constructs can be used to model diseases, or to investigate new drugs or gene and cell therapies. Researchers are also investigating whether tissue engineered constructs could be used to replace or repair damaged or injured tissue.
