Vision disorders can be caused by genetic factors, injury, or simply aging. Researchers are investigating whether genetic therapy could be used to restore vision in progressive genetic conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa, or age-related conditions such as macular degeneration. Currently there is only one approved stem cell therapy for vision disorders: Holoclar®, which uses stem cells from the eye to repair corneal damage.
